As a busy mom, I know how easy it is to begin the day with good intentions and still end up distracted.
For years, I kept prayer requests on one of my devices. It seemed practical. The problem was that every time I picked up my phone or tablet to review my prayers, something else would grab my attention first.
What started as a quick glance at my prayer notes would turn into checking my grocery list. Then I would remember something I needed to buy. A few minutes later I was scrolling Pinterest looking for recipe ideas.
Before I knew it, the quiet time I had intended to spend with God was gone.
The distraction wasn’t intentional, but it happened often enough that I knew I needed a better system.
The answer ended up being much simpler than I expected.
Instead of trying another app or productivity system, I went back to paper.
Having dedicated prayer pages has become part of my own “prayer secret sauce,” as my church likes to say. They keep my prayers visible, organized, and completely separate from the digital noise that constantly competes for my attention.
Sometimes the simplest solutions really are the most effective.
Just three simple pages:
- Prayer List
- Prayers
- Daily Gratitude Practice

Prayer List
One of the pages I use most is the Prayer List page.
This page is for specific prayer requests—usually from people who have asked me to pray on their behalf or moments when I feel led to pray for someone.
In the past, I would sincerely pray when the need was brought to my attention by request or discernment. Unintentionally, as the days and weeks passed, life would get busy and those requests would often slip from my mind.
Now, instead of relying on my memory or my ever-distracting phone, I have a dedicated place to record:
- Who I’m praying for
- What I’m praying about
- The date I started praying for that request
It also allows me to pray more consistently and intentionally rather than only remembering a request occasionally.
Prayer Page
While some prayers are tied to specific people and situations, others are much broader.
There are certain things I want to pray for regularly, ongoing areas I want to bring before God:
- My family and friends
- My community
- Our leaders
- People in need
- Current events
- Myself
When I sit down for my quiet time, I don’t have to spend mental energy trying to remember everything that’s been on my heart. It’s already there waiting for me.
My Daily Gratitude Practice
The last page that has become part of my daily rhythm is the Daily Gratitude Practice page.
The concept is simple:
Write down one thing I’m grateful for each day. That’s it, just one thing.
As moms, we often spend our days focused on what needs to be done next.
There is always another task, another responsibility, or another person who needs our attention.
Without realizing it, it’s easy to overlook the ways God has already blessed us.
That’s why I love this daily rhythm.
Even on difficult days, I can find one thing to thank God for.
Why I Prefer Paper Over Digital
I know there are countless apps available for prayer journals, gratitude tracking, and note-taking.
I’ve tried many of them.
For me, paper simply works better. I found that keeping a prayer journal on paper helped me be more present and intentional during my quiet time.
The biggest reason is that paper helps me stay focused.
When my prayer pages are printed and filled out and sitting in front of me, there are no notifications, no emails, no text messages, and no social media feeds competing for my attention.
I can open my Bible, review my prayer lists, write down my gratitude for the day, and spend time with God without the temptation of falling down a digital rabbit hole.
What I appreciate most about these pages is that they make it easier for me to be intentional. I originally created them for my own morning routine, and after seeing how much they helped me stay focused during my quiet time, I decided to include them in the Peaceful Home Planner. You can get your copy here.
Instead of starting my morning distracted, I can start it focused on God, the people I’m praying for, and the blessings He’s already given me.
For this busy mama, that has made all the difference.
Making space for what matters most
These pages haven’t made my mornings perfect.
Life is still busy. Distractions still exist.
But they’ve helped me create a simple rhythm that makes it easier to begin my day focused on God rather than focused on a screen.
And that’s been worth more than I expected. It was a simple change, but it helped me protect my morning quiet time with God.
The Peaceful Home Planner was created to help busy moms manage the many responsibilities of home life while keeping their priorities centered on what matters most.
Along with these prayer and gratitude pages, it includes eight additional printable pages designed to bring more peace, organization, and intention to everyday routines.
